Attention Grabbing Devices

A long time ago, it occurred to me that people are, basically, cattle. Look around you the next time you're sitting in a restaurant and check for glazed over expression when they chew. Why do you think we put televisions in restaurants now? Because people want to avoid thinking for themselves if they can possibly help it.

And like cattle, people need to be herded. Without explicit written instructions, a person gets distracted and lost quite easily. They frequently have to be guided towards what they want. For example, a lot of people at my current job ask where the bathroom is, walking past the sign with an arrow on it pointing towards the bathroom to ask me where the bathroom is. I used to gesture to the sign, but people could never figure out they were supposed to read it. So I just explain it, it's not a huge inconvenience for either of us. Recently I decided I'm going to start using a flare gun. How much easier would it be for them to follow a ball of fire down the hallway?

You might think it's excessive, but I think you're not looking around very closely.
